Jennifer Zhang

is a pianist and music educator based in San Francisco, California. With over a decade of teaching experience, she welcomes students from beginning to early advanced levels who are eager to deepen their understanding and passion for music. 

Jennifer began studying piano at the age of five, under teachers from Beijing and Hong Kong, with her final instructor being a graduate of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. As a young pianist, she completed the full sequence of ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) practical examinations and continued to refine her playing and musicianship throughout her teenage years.

Originally enrolled as a Psychology major at the University of California, Davis, Jennifer decided in her second year to pursue a double major, adding Music with an emphasis in Classical Piano Performance. She studied under Marilyn Swan, a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, and graduated with honors in both fields, along with a minor in Chinese. She received the Toshinao Kanno Prize for Outstanding Graduating Piano Performance and was also awarded the Edward & Patricia Gammel Endowed Scholarship.

Jennifer’s teaching philosophy centers on building a strong technical foundation to support long-term musical growth. She is known for her patience, empathy, and adaptability, and she strives to create a safe and encouraging learning environment tailored to each student’s needs. She finds joy in working with students who bring curiosity, dedication, and a willingness to grow.

Ms. Jennifer is fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese, and conversational in Cantonese.
